Pretty Cool Tool for Tracking Links - ClickMeter vs Bit.ly

Thursday, March 25, 2010 by Amanda Maksymiw

For as long as I have been using Twitter, I have used bit.ly to shorten and track any links I have tweeted about.  It worked and I was happy until I stumbled across another free tool - ClickMeter.

ClickMeter offers a more robust approach for link tracking with more detailed dashboards than its competitors.  Users are able to get real-time stats, charting capabilities, worldwide click distribution, and click Courtesy of clickmeter.comfraud detection.  The main dashboard reports how many clicks a link has received based on the IP address and indicates the number of unique visitors vs repeat visitors.

I probably sound like a dork for admitting it, but I am really intrigued by the click fraud detection.  Every time I have tweeted about an interesting article I have gone to bit.ly and eagerly checked back to see how many people actually clicked through to the post.  Over the past few weeks I have been tracking my bit.ly statistics with my website's statistics and the numbers are not matching up.

I am looking forward to trying out ClickMeter over the next few weeks as I continue to participate in different inbound marketing tactics for Boston venture capital firm, OpenView Venture Partners.
